We had a solid day of cruising up and down the site exploring the buildings, hunting out resources, sorting timber piles, and just trying to get organized as the rest of the gang trickled in over the afternoon and evening. It’s a lovely spot, high on a hill (by Illinois standards) and the only spot that is likely to get any wind on the scorching days that are predicted for us.
Nearly everyone is camping on site, and there’s still plenty of room if you choose to join us, even for just a day or two. Mid-afternoon we took off for a tour of a historic property out in the country. You could learn more about that history here.
We had a little get together at the end of the day when Mark Badsch spoke with some eloquence and passion about his program and his staff at CARD. Rick talked about the history of this Gindler Barn and its likely pedigree, gave us the run down on his expectations for the project (finished by Wednesday).
Tom Haanen and I went shopping for dinner and put together a fabulous feast that was just right.
